Shooting the crucifixion scene in season 6 of ‘The Chosen’
Dallas Jenkins, the producer of the famous serial ‘The Chosen’, recently revealed an interesting thing!
He told PEOPLE that the scene of Jesus’ crucifixion in season 6 was shot at the same place where Mel Gibson’s film ‘The Passion of Christ’ was shot.
Three weeks of shooting in Matera, Italy
“Shooting the crucifixion was the most difficult task for us,” Jenkins said.
He told that the team spent three full weeks at this location, which also included a week of night shooting.
Why was this place chosen?
Matera is a special place in Italy that offers a first century view.
According to Jenkins, “This is one of the few places in the world from where the sky of ancient times is visible, when we are on the cross, yet this place is secluded.”
Technical challenges and emotional balance
Amid night shoots and technical difficulties, Jenkins was concerned for his team.
“Everything is so physically and practically difficult that there’s not much room for the spiritual and emotional aspect,” he said.
Trying to show reality to the audience
Jenkins also explained that they did not want to make the crucifixion too “religious.” “We want to show humanity.
It’s a TV show at the end of the day,” he said. “We have to focus not just on Jonathan Roomi’s (who plays Jesus) pain, but on each character’s part of the story.”
Jonathan Roomi’s challenges
“Obviously, Jonathan will have to go through a lot of physical and emotional challenges,” Jenkins said. “But every season of our show is important.
If I spend the next three weeks just grieving and stressing, it would be unfair to the fans.”
New episodes of the show
The first two episodes of Season 5 of ‘The Chosen’ were released on Prime Video on June 15.
Three more episodes arrived on June 22, and the final three episodes will be released on June 29.
Beyond the religious story, the human story
“My job is to make sure it doesn’t feel too religious,” Jenkins explained.
“We don’t want it to feel like a religious painting or a church sermon.
We want to show the humanity.”
So guys, it will be interesting to see how memorable the crucifixion scene will be in this new season of ‘The Chosen.’
