With success comes tough decisions
Quinta Brunson is at a turning point with her hit show Abbott Elementary.
As the beloved comedy approaches its fifth season, the 35-year-old creator and star is wondering what’s next.
“We’re very lucky that our show has lasted five seasons and the audience still loves it,” Brunson told Bustle.
“But my cast members want to explore other opportunities, and Abbott takes up seven months of our time.
It’s a big commitment that limits their chances of doing other things.”
Balancing success and new dreams
While there’s no set date for the show’s ending, Brunson is thinking beyond the classroom walls.
She’s currently reading scripts and waiting for her next perfect role.
“I want to use Abbott’s success to help other people’s creative projects move forward,” she explained.
Breaking away from her image
What’s next for the star? Something completely different.
“It’s every actor’s dream to break away from their image,” Brunson admitted. “Right now, everyone sees me as ‘Janine’ and ‘Teacher.’
I’m excited to show a completely different side of myself.”
The Abbotts’ ongoing journey
The school comedy, which debuted in 2021, quickly found a place in the hearts of viewers.
Though Season 5 was confirmed in January, a premiere date has not yet been announced.
Fans can expect the main cast to return, including Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti and William Stanford Davis.
The Cast’s Strong Bonds
The Abbott family has deep bonds. Chris Perfetti told PEOPLE earlier this year: “I feel very connected to my Abbott family.
It’s been a blessing to play Jacob for so long, and these guys became my family from day one.”
Lisa Walter even revealed that the cast received a pay raise ahead of Season 4, joking that they got “a little more money and as many Hot Pockets as I could eat.”
