New Zealand Chooses To Bowl

The West Indies and New Zealand are set to clash in Guyana, as New Zealand has chosen to bowl first after winning the toss. New Zealand is under intense pressure to bowl out the home team, as the hosts are currently leading the five-match One Day International series one-nil.

For the Black Caps, it was of paramount importance to get off to a flying start and gain early momentum in the T20I clash. By choosing to bowl, New Zealand demonstrated their belief in early moisture on the ground to help their spin attack.

West Indies And New Zealand

In preparation for the match, New Zealand made one change to their line-up, as they inserted young Dean Foxcroft into the starting XI in place of Nathan Smith. The Black Caps went all out on spin as they boldly brought in Foxcroft, which in turn created two-fold benefits for New Zealand.

Firstly, it provided them with an in-depth batting lineup, while simultaneously giving them an extra spin bowling option for the match. In doing so, New Zealand opted to go all out on spin, which meant they only brought two seamers – Matthew Fisher and Jacob Duffy.

For the first time in the T20I series, the visitors went all out on spin as their main weapon to try and nullify the dangerous West Indian hitters in this specific, high-stakes clash.

In response, the West Indies also made one change to their line-up as they inserted pace bowler Matthew Forde into the starting XI in place of Shamar Joseph. The home team’s decision to bring in Forde meant they also went all out on seam as they only brought two seamers.

West Indies opted to go with the experienced Alzarri Joseph as their main seamer with Forde as his back-up. Interestingly enough, the Windies decided to stick with their fearsome left-arm spin attack.

The Windies Believe In Their Left-arm Spin Attack

For the West Indies, they went all out on spin and stuck with their famed left-arm spin attack of Gudakesh Motie, Vitel Lawes, and Khary Pierre. It was the identical attack that dismantled the batters in the opening match of the series.

By virtue of doing so, Windies decided to sit out all-rounders Roston Chase, who missed out on his spot in the starting XI. In doing so, the home team demonstrated their complete faith in their famed left-arm spin attack to neutralize the dangerous New Zealand hitters.

Both Sides Went All Out On Spinners

When both sides elect to go all out on spin on the same day, the message is clear about the characteristics of the pitch in Guyana. In fact, the conditions are ideal for a slow pitch, which is high on moisture.

As such, both teams are expected to face challenges in scoring runs at a decent pace as batters will have to display outstanding footwork and patience. As a result, the side that displays more patience and accuracy against the spin bowling will reap the most rewards.

Setting The Stage For An Exciting T20I Clash

By virtue of choosing to bat first, New Zealand has set the stage for a highly entertaining T20I clash, as the Black Caps want to level the series and make it closer.

However, West Indies are also determined to take advantage of their home ground and increase their lead to two matches as the series begins to turn in their favor. The upcoming clash between New Zealand and West Indies promises to offer a thrilling spectacle for viewers across the globe.
