Janelle James’ Reject Audition: Raped, kicked, did not get role!

Janelle James revealed her rejected audition for a wrestling show, which has not been seen to date due to salt.

Abbott Elementary Star’s Secret Audition

Janelle James recently revealed on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” show that she once auditioned for Netflix’s wrestling dramedy “Glow.”

Do you know what else? She’s still a little shy that she didn’t get the role.

She auditioned for everything

“I really wanted that role,” James said, and explained that she wanted to create an ’80s rap and perform a fight scene with herself! Meaning the level of extra effort was different.

“I rapped and then I kicked a round. I remember walking out of the audition and thinking, ‘Ekdum was perfect,'” he said, laughing. But the casting gods had some other plans.

I haven’t seen such a salty show

When Ripa asked if she could watch the shows in which she was not cast, James simply said: “I haven’t seen even one second of that show.

I’m so salty.” Although he jokingly said that maybe he will watch it today.

Kya Ho Sakta Tha

The Emmy-winning Netflix series starred Alison Brie and was about Hollywood misfits in 1980s Los Angeles who were trying to reinvent themselves through women’s wrestling. The show ran for three seasons from 2017 to 2019.

Got the real spotlight

Didn’t get an entry into the wrestling ring, but James got the breakthrough role of hilariously inappropriate Principal Ava Coleman in “Abbott Elementary.”

For this role, he has received three Emmy nominations since the show’s 2021 launch.

Comedy Was Always the Plan

The interesting thing is that acting was not on James’ radar originally.

“I never had aspirations of being an actor,” he revealed on EW’s Awardist podcast.

“I wanted to be Chris Rock. I wanted to be Richard Pryor. I wanted to be Amy Schumer.”

From Stand-Up Dreams to TV Star

“I wanted to make $30 million a year touring and hang out with my friends and be a degenerate comedian like every comedian dreams of,” James admitted with his signature candor.

Sometimes, the roles we miss out on, we end up taking them to the right place—and in James’ case, instead of body-slamming opponents in spandex, stealing a banker scene from one of TV’s funniest principals!
