Cory Monteith: Parents Die Weeks Apart

Cory Monteith’s parents, Ann and Joe, passed away weeks apart, years after the Glee star’s tragic death.

Sad news has emerged from the world of entertainment. ‘Glee’ star Cory Monteith’s parents have died just weeks apart, 12 years after their death.

Cory’s mother, Ann McGregor, died on June 18 at the age of 74, while his father, Joe Monteith, died on May 12 at the age of 75. Both were battling serious illnesses.

Parents die: just weeks apart

Cory Monteith’s mother, Ann Marie McGregor, breathed her last on June 18.

Her death was reported in her obituary, which stated that she was undergoing treatment for an illness at St. Paul’s Hospital.

The family thanked the doctors and staff of the hospital for their “excellent care”. Meanwhile, Corey’s father, Joe Monteith, died on May 12.

He was also being treated in the palliative care unit of DECH, whose staff the family thanked for their “excellent care and compassion”.

Corey’s tragic end and mother’s pain

Cory Monteith died in 2013 at the age of 31 due to drug and alcohol toxicity. This news was a big shock for fans of ‘Glee’.

Corey’s mother, Ann, told PEOPLE magazine five years after losing her son that she still had not recovered from the shock.

She said, “I still haven’t been able to handle myself. My world had completely stopped, and I was never the same again.” —

Relationship with father and incomplete goodbye

Joe Monteith had a long-term separation from Cory, but they reconnected two years before his son’s death.

In 2013, Joe spoke to People magazine about how he was devastated by the pain of not being able to say goodbye to his son.

“It’s tearing everything inside of me apart and breaking me apart,” he said. It was truly heartbreaking that this father-son reunion was so short-lived.

Impact on ‘Glee’

At the time of Cory’s death, ‘Glee’ was in between its fourth and fifth seasons.

Cory’s co-star and girlfriend, Lea Michele, who played Finn Hudson on the show, had to return to set to shoot Season 5 just a month after his death.

Lea recently revealed how much pressure she felt to return to work so everyone else could have a chance to continue their jobs.

Series co-creator Ryan Murphy later regretted his decision to continue with the show after the tragedy.

He said, “If I had it to do over again, we would have stopped for a very long time and probably wouldn’t have come back… because you can’t really recover from something like that.”

This shows how difficult Cory’s death must have been for the entire team.

Joe and Ann, who divorced in 1989, are survived by their son Shaun Monteith.

Ann is survived by her brothers Pat, Mike and Pete, sister Mary and their families.

Joe’s family includes his wife Yvette Monteith, brother Phillip Monteith, stepchildren Paul McCoy and Dale McCoy, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

This news is really heartbreaking. The death of Cory Monteith’s parents in such a short span of time is a huge loss for the family.

Do you think the entertainment industry should provide more support to artists after such tragic incidents?
