Brave Stay Perfect
Southern Brave maintained their unbeaten start to the Women’s Hundred 2026, defeating a plucky Birmingham Phoenix by 24 runs and extending their record to four consecutive victories.
It was a meeting between the competition’s best and worst team, so it was no surprise that a dominant display from the Brave was required to overcome the spirited challenge from the bottom-of-the-table Phoenix.
Lee Gets Into Gear
Lizelle Lee was all over the new ball in an enterprising knock of 43 from 23 balls and hit the only two sixes of the match, sending out a statement of intent to the bowlers at the Rose Bowl. Her exciting start set the platform for the Brave as she and Bouchier built the innings in tandem and raised the scoring rate.
Bouchier Takes It Easy
Maia Bouchier was steadier at the other end and played the odd boundary to reach 45 from 31 balls, before falling shortly after.
The two batters had shared 68 runs before Lee was out and Bouchier followed soon after; Rodrigues came in and saw off the tail with three fours in the final five balls to give the Brave a competitive total of 140 for 3.
Perrin Hits Back
Chasing down 141, the Phoenix were off to a flyer as opener Davina Perrin raced to 50 from 40 balls. Perrin and Beaumont put on 73 for the first wicket before the latter was out.
This set up a tense finish as the required rate climbed, but the momentum shifted as soon as Perrin was out. The star batter made several chances at the boundary before she misclicked a Glenn delivery and was caught at long on by Bouchier.
Molineux Steps Up
Molineux was always going to be a threat with the ball for the Brave, taking two wickets to add to her haul of five in the competition.
She and pace bowler Courteen-Coleman worked the middle order of the Phoenix into trouble throughout the innings as Ellyse Perry tried to steady the innings with two late boundaries.
Phoenix Left Wanting
However, it wasn’t enough as the required rate continued to climb and the Phoenix were eventually all out for 116, 24 runs short of the Brave’s total.
It was yet another frustrating day for the Phoenix as they continue their search for a first win of the competition, and once again they were punished for a lack of support from their middle order.
Their best chance came from Perrin’s rapid half-century, but she was unable to get the strike to the other batters as the Brave wrapped up the innings with a composed lower order.
Brave Take Plaudits
The win sees the Brave move top of the Women’s Hundred 2026 table on an unbeaten record so far, while the Phoenix remain at the foot of the table.
Both teams have work to do as the competition progresses, but the Brave’s position as serial winners is under no threat from the bottom-of-the-table Phoenix.
What’s Next
Southern Brave will be looking to continue their success as the competition progresses, with all teams looking to find a way past them.
The Phoenix will no doubt be buoyed by Perrin’s half-century and Molineux’s wicket tally, but they’ll need to ask themselves why their batters continue to fall short when their openers get going. They may yet find a way to win soon, but it looks like a long road ahead for the phoenix as they continue to struggle.
