A thrilling contest in Dallas

The lights were glowing bright over Dallas as two of the league’s strongest sides prepared for a highly anticipated clash. The San Francisco Unicorns had come into this game with the objective to defeat MI New York and consolidate their position at the top of the table.

The fans were in for a hard-fought battle between bat and ball, although a ruthless display of bowling from the Unicorns left the New York side stunned.

MI New York start aggressively

Chasing a huge total, MI New York came out to bat with an attacking lineup. The new ball was up for grabs, and Ryan Rickelton wasted no time in punishing the pacemen. Rickelton played his shots and took the attack deep to score 20 runs before the second over was completed.

It appeared that MI New York may achieve their target with plenty of time at hand. The pitch offered a perfect blend with the outfield, and the openers were well-set to capitalize on the scoring opportunities.

Short spins the game

However, Matthew Short wasted no time in completely dismantling the upper order of the batting side. Short entered the attack, and he immediately sent down the first three wickets within successive overs. He accounted for Quinton de Kock, Monank Patel, and Ryan Rickelton in the span of 31 deliveries.

Short’s magic spell saw the score reduced from 56 to 79, while he registered incredible figures of 3 for 24. MI New York’s innings turned completely on its head as he sent back three dangerous batters for a decent score.

Pooran and Pollard try to accelerate

With the tail-end set to face the most difficult spells, Nicholas Pooran, along with the experienced Kieron Pollard, walked up to the batting crease. The two stars played cautiously and attempted to take the attack to the bowlers.

New York’s lower order needed to create a competitive score, and Pollard laid the foundation to do so with a defensive yet attacking shot. However, their partnership was cut short when Anirudh Immanuel clean bowled Pollard.

Late fireworks from Sunny and Anderson

As MI New York struggled with the scoring rate, Sunny Patel and Corey Anderson stood up to the challenge with handy contributions at the end. The two stars played a cautious innings and added 43 runs for the sixth wicket.

Despite their efforts, it was challenging to maintain the strike rate at the needed level. Anderson and Patel both played with a positive mindset and pulled off the lower order to make a mockery of Natarajan’s bowling.

A relatively low-scoring innings

Chasing 144 was always going to be a difficult task, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius made it clear early in the innings. Pretorius laid into Trent Boult right from the word go and deposited him for a brace of boundaries. He had a simple task of scoring runs with the strike in his hand, and he immediately set his intentions of hitting big shots to take the game deep.

Pretorius took full advantage of the favorable conditions and took the bowling attack for a ride. He absolutely dismantled the bowling attack, smashing 52 runs within the powerplay.

Pretorius accelerates as he reaches half-century

Even after losing his opening partner Finn Allen for just 20 runs, Pretorius remained in full flow. He displayed a beautiful array of shots and kept on attacking the bowling without losing a single wicket.

Pretorius brought up his half-century with an elegant six to keep the strike rotating. He played the best innings of his career with sheer determination and a perfect blend of shots. He beautifully counterpoised his new partner Matthew Short, who was visibly struggling at the other end.

Unicorns cruise to a commanding victory

Pretorius kept on attacking with the same intensity and powered the Unicorns to a comfortable victory. He only needed a couple of runs to register a century in his T20 debut, and he simply had no intention of letting this game slip away.

Pretorius punished Boult again for his fourth brace of boundaries and took the strike in the final over. Later, he flicked the winning runs with a single to record an incredible 102 not out and a nine-wicket victory with a mountain of deliveries remaining.
