Garton Hits 117 But Outlaws Steal The Win

A stunning Garton comeback century was overshadowed by a Nottinghamshire victory.

Thrilling Welbeck Encounter

Cricket fans were treated to a thrilling game of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup between local rivals Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire. The match, which took place in the beautiful setting of the Welbeck Cricket Club, was a real treat for all lovers of the game.

Warwickshire Stumble to Start With

Nottinghamshire got off to a flying start, dismantling their rivals with the bat in the opening power play. Their seam attack of Brett Hutton and Lyndon James proved too much for the visitors to handle.

They were both clinical and put a barrage of balls past the edge of the Warwickshire batters. This resulted in the hosts falling to 121 for six at one point, looking to make a desperate recovery.

Garton Shines in Challenging Conditions

Garton looked a treat at the crease as he launched into an electrifying counter-attacking innings. The 34-year-old hit ten fours and three sixes all over the place to devastating effect.

His attacking innings, which lasted a whopping 101 balls, saw him post a maiden century in all forms of the game. He saved the day for the visitors with a special innings that lit up the grounds.

Record-Breaking Stand

Garton did not have to carry the burden of his team all by himself as he was well supported by the excellent Bamber. The two put on a special 121-run stand for the seventh wicket.

Their efforts saw them set a new List A record for the largest run chase between Notts and Warwickshire. Garton made 101 while Bamber made a well-timed 50, setting their opponents a tricky 282 to defend before eventually falling to 282 all out.

Outlaws Post A Competitive Total

With the target posted on the board, the Outlaws needed to put together a competitive innings to give themselves a decent chance of chasing down the total. They did not have to wait long to see the efforts of their openers as they put on a stand of 103.

Slater and McCann showed a degree of the composure that has come to define their game so far. Slater looked in great form despite nursing a muscle injury but showed good footwork against their rivals’ bowlers. They both took the strike regularly, rotating the strike well and punishing any loose balls they faced.

Lintott Creates New Opportunities to Bowl

It looked as if the visitors would sail through their run chase before the game threw up a new twist. Lintott was introduced to the attack, and he created new opportunities as he claimed two crucial wickets.

He soon sent the dangerous McCann and captain Haseeb Hameed back to the pavilion with his first two deliveries. This sparked fresh hope among the Warwickshire supporters. The new innings momentum saw the home side move to 190 for five as the chase began to unravel.

Verreynne Steers Outlaws Home

When the pressure is at its most intense, it is always good to have someone with a wealth of experience at the other end. Verreynne displayed exactly that as he steadied the innings for his side.

Pocklington well supported him as he pulled the attack back into gear. His well-paced 68 eventually steered his team to an emphatic victory with no further scares for his side.

Notts Make Great Start to Campaign

This was a great start to the Nottinghamshire Outlaws’ campaign as they registered two wins from their first two matches. However, for the visitors, it was a heartbreaking defeat.

They pulled off a special and record-breaking comeback to tie the game at 282 each. Yet, it was not enough as Notts were victorious with a narrow three-wicket win. The two sides will be hoping to continue their exciting brand of cricket as the domestic season gets underway.
