Shimron Hetmyer hits 111 as Guyana Amazon Warriors beat TKR in rain-hit CPL thriller

Can one batter change an entire game? Shimron Hetmyer demonstrated how to do just that. He hammered an unbelievable 111 not out from 43 balls as the Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated the Trinbago Knight Riders by nine runs via the DLS method.
The rain may have shortened the match, but it didn’t shorten the excitement one bit.
Hetmyer Goes Wild
The Guyana Amazon Warriors were off to a miserable start after electing to bat first. They lost Glenn Phillips and Shai Hope early on before posting a meager 22 for two when the rain arrived.
Everything changed for the better after the long delay.
Hetmyer really heated up and started hitting the ball all over the park. He reached his century in only 40 balls. His final score was an unbelievable 111 not out from 43 balls, which included eight fours and nine sixes. His strike rate was an astonishing 258.14.

Trinbago did not panic, and Nicholas Pooran responded in kind, scoring 43 from 16 balls to give his team a good platform.
Alex Hales also played a vital hand, scoring 55 from 24 deliveries, and looked certain to finish the business off for Guyana.
However, Guyana stepped up when it mattered most.
The first man to do so was Mohammad Nabi, who picked up three wickets for 20 runs, including the crucial dismissal of Pooran, to turn the game back in the hosts’ direction.
One of the best catches of the CPL season saw Glenn Phillips first take a one-handed grab of Sunil Narine.
The Guyana custodian had to lunge forward to get the ball, and even he looked surprised at how good the catch was.
Hales continued to play his shot, but Shamar Joseph had the crucial run-out to peg back TKR.
TKR eventually finished on 172/7, nine runs short of the DLS target.

This win is significant because it sees Guyana overcoming all odds to win the game.
They lost early wickets, had to wait for the rain to stop, and then had to accelerate the scoring rate.
Hetmyer once again provided the runs, while Mohammad Nabi and the rest of the bowlers took their chances.
Phillips’ excellent one-handed catch also shone light on the team’s great all-round skills.
It was a well-rounded win from Guyana.
The Amazon Warriors remain undefeated in CPL 2026, and Hetmyer’s excellent 111 will no doubt receive the most praise.
However, there were other contributors.
TKR looked like they would win the match, but Guyana continued to fight until the very end.
Ultimately, it was Hetmyer’s special innings that proved the difference between the two sides.
