Zimbabwe Team Stranded in Delhi After Middle East Conflict Disrupts Flights

Zimbabwe’s men’s cricket team is unable to return home after the T20 World Cup 2026 due to the Middle East conflict affecting flights to Dubai.

Zimbabwe Team Stranded in Delhi

Stuck in India

Zimbabwe played their last T20 World Cup 2026 game against South Africa in New Delhi on Sunday. They got knocked out in the Super Eight stage, which was disappointing enough. But then they found out they couldn’t even fly home.

Their route was supposed to go through Dubai, and that’s currently a no-go zone because of the whole Israel-USA-Iran situation. Iran launched strikes on U.S. military bases across the Gulf region after its cities were bombed by Israel and the USA.

Flight operations in several West Asian countries have been completely disrupted. Dubai is basically closed for business right now.

So now the entire Zimbabwe squad—players and support staff—are stuck in Delhi. Just waiting. Not exactly the homecoming they had in mind.

The Update From Zimbabwe Cricket

Zimbabwe Cricket put out a statement on social media to let everyone know what’s going on. They’re safe, they’re in India, but they can’t get back to Harare.

The statement said: “Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) confirms that the Zimbabwe senior men’s team remains safe and well in India following the conclusion of their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.

The squad was scheduled to return home via Dubai, but travel plans have been affected by the evolving situation in the Middle East, which has disrupted key transit routes.”

That’s the official version. The human version? These guys want to get home to their families.

What ICC Is Doing

The ICC’s events and logistics teams are working around the clock to figure this out. They’re talking to multiple international airlines, trying to book alternative flights.

This is unprecedented—they’re essentially rewriting travel plans mid-tournament while a geopolitical crisis unfolds in real-time.

And here’s where it gets even more interesting: they aren’t the only ones stranded. PV Sindhu, the Indian badminton star, is stuck in Dubai. Several tennis players, including Daniil Medvedev, are in the same boat.

Indian wrestlers are competing at the United World Wrestling Ranking Series and probably wondering about their return plans, too.

What This Tells Us

Cricket fans usually obsess over runs, wickets, and match outcomes. But here’s a reminder—sometimes the game takes a back seat to stuff way bigger than sport.

These players trained their whole lives to represent their country at a World Cup, they played their hearts out, and now they’re stuck thousands of miles from home because of a conflict they have zero control over.

The ICC will figure out a way to get them home. They always do. But until then, it’s a weird, uncomfortable waiting game for the Chevrons.
