According to Luke Grimes, production in Yellowstone is winding down thanks to Costner’s departure. We spoke about possible spin-offs.
The latter episodes were simpler to shoot once Costner left.
The potential for Yellowstone spin-offs is something that Grimes sees.
Speaking about the effects of Kevin Costner’s departure on the cast and production, Yellowstone’s Luke Grimes—who plays Kayce Dutton—recently discussed the situation.
Grimes told Esquire that the departure of Costner made filming the latter episodes easier since there was less tension on site.
Since Costner was also shooting his own Western, Horizon: An American Saga, around the same time as Yellowstone, conflicts arose between him and series creator Taylor Sheridan.
The importance of John Dutton III’s (Carter’s) demise after five seasons was recognized by Grimes. Since seven years is a considerable amount of time to portray a single character, he thought it was appropriate for the series to conclude.
Grimes expressed gratitude for the experience despite the difficulties and hinted at being receptive to spin-off ideas, but he was unsure of their viability.
He imagined his protagonist, Kayce, running away from the responsibilities of a big ranch in search of a simpler life with his family.
The plot centers on the Dutton family’s reaction to losing their dad, as Grimes previously told PEOPLE, and Costner’s disappearance signifies the end of the program.
Despite the noticeable absence of Costner, Grimes characterized the ensemble as a tight-knit family. With the series finale airing on December 15, all five seasons of Yellowstone may be seen on Peacock and Paramount+.
Costner’s departure marked a significant milestone for the program, signifying the end of an era and the inevitable conclusion of the story.
In his remarks, Grimes brings to light the cast’s professional and personal journey as they say goodbye to a series that has meant a lot to them for a long time.
