A Shocking Arrest
Whitney Purvis, who first found fame on MTV’s “16 and Pregnant,” was arrested on charges connected to the death of John Mark Harris on Monday, July 7.
According to police documents, Purvis allegedly distributed a substance called “trank” — a mixture of xylazine and fentanyl — which directly led to Harris’ fatal overdose death.
Heartwarming Message Before Charges
What makes this case especially horrifying is that Purvis had left a heartwarming tribute on Harris’ online obituary just months before her arrest.
Harris, 37, died on February 17, and Purvis posted her own message on March 3, expressing regret for not being able to attend his funeral.
Her Own Words Haunt Her Now
“You came to my aid on numerous occasions and saved me over the years,” Purvis wrote in the tribute.
She described their friendship as based on shared experiences: “We bonded over being chefs, the love of cooking, and our struggles.”
Her message continued with heartwarming details about the things she’ll miss: “your silly messages and photos,” “the amazing cooking,” and “relaxing on the couch watching TV.”

Multiple charges
Floyd County, Georgia, authorities have charged Pervis with felony involuntary manslaughter.
He also faces charges of distribution of controlled substances and using a communication device to commit a drug-related crime.
The Drug Enforcement Administration’s Atlanta Field Division has confirmed they are also investigating the case.
A year of tragedy
This arrest comes during what has already been a devastating time for Pervis.
Just last month, on June 2, she announced the death of her teenage son, Weston Gosa Jr. She is also the mother of another son named River with her ex, Weston Gosa Sr.
From reality TV to reality
Pervis’ journey from reality TV personality to facing serious criminal charges highlights the often overlooked struggles of former reality stars.
His emotional tribute to Harris, describing her as “a genuine and unique person with a heart”, now stands in contrast to allegations that he provided the substances that took her life.
As the investigation continues, the case is a sad reminder of how tangled relationships can be in the world of addiction and its consequences.
