Explosion from a new face: The Danny Reagan family returns to Boston Blue!

Danny Reagan’s family returns to Town

The Blue Bloods universe is expanding, and some familiar faces are joining the journey.

While Donnie Wahlberg is carrying the Reagan family torch forward in the spinoff series Boston Blue, he won’t be the only family member returning.

Mika Amonsen is stepping into the role of Sean Reagan, Danny’s son, replacing Andrew Terraciano, who played the character as he grew up on our screens for 14 seasons.

A New Beginning for the Father-Son

Sean’s character has evolved considerably since we last saw him.

Now, as a Boston PD patrolman, he’s carrying on the family legacy, but on his own terms—away from the shadow of the NYPD.

Moving to Boston creates the perfect opportunity for this father-son duo to rebuild their relationship in new territory.

From Child Actor to New Enthusiasm

Terraciano first appeared as Sean when he was just 7 years old, and remained with the role until Blue Bloods ended in 2024.

Amonsen, who horror fans may recognize from Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving film, brings new energy to the character as he enters adulthood and the police force.

Silver Family Rivalry

Boston Blue introduces viewers to another law enforcement dynasty—the Silver family.

Sonequa Martin-Green plays Lena Silver, Danny’s new partner and the eldest daughter of this iconic Boston family.

The cast list includes some serious talent: Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, Maggie Lawson as Superintendent Sarah Silver, Gloria Reuben as Matriarch Mae, and Marcus Scribner as the youngest son, Jonah.

Life After Cancellation

The ending of Blue Bloods hit fans hard. Even Tom Selleck expressed surprise, pointing out that when the show was axed, it was the “third-most scripted show on the air.”

Though Selleck’s Commissioner Frank Reagan will not be involved in the spinoff, Wahlberg almost predicted Danny’s future, telling EW that he saw his character “walking straight into the next chapter of his life, probably doing the same job in a different place.”

When to watch

Ready to see the Reagan-Silver confrontation? Boston Blue will arrive on CBS this fall, Friday nights at 10 p.m. ET—keeping the spirit of the family dinner alive in a whole new city.
