Fangirl moment on Eras tour

Lola Tung couldn’t hide her joy when she revealed how Taylor Swift recognised her at a 2023 concert.

Appearing on The Tonight Show with her co-stars Gavin Casalegno and Christopher Briney, the 22-year-old actress revealed her memorable fan moment.

“We were right next to the stage when she sang ‘False God’, which was at our show,” Tung said excitedly.

“She looked at us, waved and said, ‘I love you guys’.” The singer also made a heart gesture towards Tung and Jenny Han, who wrote the novel behind the hit Prime Video series.

Tung’s reaction? “I was about to faint. It was amazing.”

Swift’s Music Shapes the Series

Taylor’s songs have become the heartbeat of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” which perfectly captures the show’s emotional love triangle — between Belly (Tung) and brothers Conrad (Briney) and Jeremiah (Casalegno).

The upcoming third and final season continues this tradition. Its trailer features “Daylight” during Jeremiah’s scenes and “Red” for Conrad’s entrance — which matches Belly’s narration with the “loving him comes in flashbacks, and echoes” lyric.

Swift-magic behind the scenes

Jenny Han, the 44-year-old writer and co-showrunner, revealed on Jenna Bush Hager’s podcast that she knew exactly which Swift song she wanted for a particular scene.

“I was trying to put it in everybody’s head,” Han admitted. She also wrote Swift a “handwritten note” explaining how much it meant to her and the fans.

Longtime Swift fan

“I’ve always been a fan of Taylor Swift,” Tung explained in a 2023 interview.

“I used to listen to Fearless, Speak Now, and Red on my CD player when I was little. I would listen to them while I fell asleep.”

What’s next?

The first two episodes of the final season premiere on Prime Video on July 16.

Fans can expect more Swift tracks, including songs from Red and Lover, as the story builds toward its dramatic finale.
