Sullivan's Crossing: The secrets hidden in this Canadian paradise

Nova Scotia’s hidden beauty becomes the main attraction

Have you ever wondered where those stunning scenery in Sullivan’s Crossing comes from?

The CW/CTV hit series may be set in the fictional town of Timberlake, Nova Scotia, but its breathtaking landscapes are 100% real Canadian beauty.

While Robyn Carr’s original book series placed the story in the Rocky Mountains, showrunner Roth made the bold decision to relocate to Canada’s east coast.

“To make sure the show felt different, I decided to set it in Nova Scotia for Nova Scotia,” Roth explained. As a Canadian, she wanted to showcase the natural splendor of her homeland to a global audience.

Where the magic really happens

The series is primarily filmed in Halifax, Nova Scotia’s capital. But the production doesn’t stay in one place – they’ve captured scenes in a number of stunning locations:

  • Beaver Bank
  • Shooby Park in Dartmouth
  • Oakfield
  • Eastern Passage

Sharp-eyed viewers can also spot aerial footage of Lawrencetown Beach Provincial Park and the beautiful view of Peggy’s Cove.

Is Timberlake a real place?

Sorry, fans – you can’t actually visit Timberlake or Sullivan’s Crossing campground.

Both are fictional creations from Carr’s imagination, adapted for television by Roth.

Still, some dedicated viewers have noticed similarities between the show’s setting and the real town of Timberlea in Halifax.

The similarity in both landscape and name has led to speculation, though the production hasn’t confirmed that they shot there specifically.

The stars themselves have been impressed by Halifax’s charm.

What’s also great about it is that it’s a city and then a little bit outside, you can be on the trail in a little community.”

Chad Michael Murray (Cal) doesn’t hide his enthusiasm either, calling Halifax “Canada’s best kept secret” and “absolutely magical.”

“We’re out there every day and it’s like fresh air filming,” Murray shared.

“You’re out in nature and you can’t help but feel grounded. It’s just wonderful.”

Scott Patterson (Harry “Sully” Sullivan) agrees, finding comfort in the location despite being away from family: “If that’s what you’re gonna do, it’s a really nice place to live and work.”
