A horrible school shooting turned a normal morning into a nightmare for everyone there, including students and teachers
On a really sad morning, the normal buzz of school was totally cut off by a violent act that’s sadly become all too common.
People who were there saw everything that happened, and they’re telling us the scary story from start to finish.
Right after school started, students in different classes heard loud bangs, then everything went crazy and the school’s lockdown alarm went off.
Teachers quickly locked down the doors and got students to safety, some even blocking off rooms while others tried to get students into safe spots.
From what we’ve heard, the person who did this got into the school through a door that wasn’t locked and started shooting anyone in sight.
“We heard the shots and knew something was really bad,” said a teacher, clearly shaken up. Students who were there said they saw everyone freaking out, with some trying to get out through windows and others hiding under their desks.
Even in all the chaos, a few students managed to call 911, giving the cops important info.
It's important to have "tough conversations" with children about traumatic events such as school shootings, former FBI agent and attorney Katherine Schweit says. But it's also important to not "over saturate them" with information.

The cops showed up super fast, getting there in just a few minutes. They worked together with SWAT teams and federal agents to quickly surround the school.
The first responders went in while the shooter was still around, doing what they had to do to stop the threat and help anyone hurt.
“Our main goal was to stop the shooter and help everyone as fast as we could,” said the local police chief when we asked about it.
The ambulance crew was right behind them, setting up a place to help the injured right away. The medics and cops worked together to get everyone out of the building.
“The quick and professional work of the first responders definitely saved lives,” said a teacher. The cops made sure the area was safe, checking every room to make sure the shooter was caught and there wasn’t anyone else out there.
After everything was over, the community was still dealing with the shock and sadness, but knowing the first responders acted so fast gave them a bit of hope in the middle of such a scary time.
