These days, Ron Howard can’t help but smile at his brother’s success.

While Ron just received his first Emmy nomination for starring in “The Studio,” he is equally pleased with his brother Clint’s Daytime Emmy nomination for his work on “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

“People come up to talk to me about his acting,” Ron says proudly. The 71-year-old director saw an episode featuring his younger brother and was impressed.

What was meant to be an episode job for Clint turned into a regular role that viewers loved.

Natural talent, no advice needed

When it comes to Clint’s acting, Ron takes off his director’s hat. “Oh no, I’m just enjoying my brother,” he says. “He has his own talent, his own style and feel.”

This non-interfering approach says a lot about the respect between the brothers. Ron acknowledges Clint’s unique contributions, calling him “creative” and “a professional” who never disappoints.

From an episode to character development

Ron is not surprised that soap operas wanted more of Clint. “He’s a great character actor and so recognizable,” Ron explained in April. “People are always excited when he shows up somewhere.”

Clint, 66, has appeared in 17 films directed by his famous brother, including “Apollo 13,” “Cocoon,” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

Brotherhood behind the scenes

Working together brings special moments for the Howard brothers. Ron enjoys “standing in the middle of setup and having a few laughs” and appreciates that Clint “isn’t afraid to open up to his big brother.”

This honest relationship is reflected in their professional collaboration, leading to authentic performances that touch audiences’ hearts.

The Demands of Soap Operas

Clint takes his soap opera roles seriously. “You’re given a lot of scenes, and you have to be prepared,” he said of his work on “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

He credits his parents, Rance and Jean Howard, with instilling a strong work ethic from a young age.

“On soap operas, it’s possible to get a lot of dialogue. You have to learn it, understand it, present it, and be light on your feet.”

The Emmy Awards air Sept. 14, and the Daytime Emmys will be Oct. 17 — possibly a double celebration for the Howard family.
