Pakistan mobilizes health workers for a nationwide polio vaccination campaign to combat a surge in cases and prevent the crippling disease.
In a critical move to combat the resurgence of polio, Pakistan has launched a nationwide vaccination campaign to immunize 45 million children against the debilitating disease.
The campaign, which began on Monday and will run until Sunday, comes in response to an alarming increase in polio cases across the country.

The vaccination drive is particularly crucial as Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan remain the only two countries where the spread of polio has not been fully stopped.
The decision by the Taliban government in Afghanistan to suddenly halt a recent door-to-door vaccination campaign has raised concerns about the potential for cross-border transmission, further underscoring the need for a robust response in Pakistan.
While these nationwide efforts are commendable, the campaign faces significant challenges, including the ongoing threat of violence targeting health workers and police escorts.
Militant groups have falsely claimed that the vaccination campaigns are a Western conspiracy to sterilize children, leading to attacks on polio teams in the past.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has personally met with frontline health workers, urging them to ensure that no child is left unvaccinated.
