After two decades playing one of daytime’s most dynamic characters, General Hospital icon Kirsten Storms is ready to talk.
Ahead of a major career milestone, she’s been reflecting on the wild ride of her character Maxie Jones’ many love affairs, getting real about the good, the complicated, and yes, the occasionally awkward.
What romance was “a little strange” for her?
Storms recently opened up to Swooon about a specific pairing that felt a bit odd: Maxie’s relationship with the older, troubled Lucky Spencer, played by Greg Vaughan.
She explained that it felt “weird” because she’d known Vaughan since she was just 14 or 15, seeing him as a “grown up” back then.
Vaughan is about 10 years Storms’ senior, adding to that feeling of strangeness.
What made that storyline tough?
Beyond the age dynamic, Storms found the actual plot with Lucky challenging.
She mentioned how the story involved “all the things Maxie was doing just to get him,” suggesting some pretty questionable and rough choices on her character’s part during that “crazy time.”
Did she discuss other past loves?
Absolutely! Maxie’s romantic history is lengthy, as is typical on soaps.
Storms candidly shared her thoughts with Swooon on numerous other men in Maxie’s life, including Jesse Beaudry (Matt Marraccini), Cooper Barrett (Jason Gerhardt), Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), Johnny Zacchara (Brandon Barash), Matt Hunter (Jason Cook), Levi Dunkleman (Zachary Garred), the beloved Nathan West (Ryan Paevey), Peter August (Wes Ramsey), and even Franco (James Franco).
What was it like working with James Franco?
Working with the movie star definitely came with some nerves, Storms admitted, though she was also “very excited.”
She described Franco as interesting, unique, and genuinely himself. What she particularly appreciated was his honesty; he didn’t act like a big star but instead was open about his own nerves and humility.
He wanted to learn the ropes of daytime and was frank about feeling overwhelmed by the demanding pace, making him “great to work with.”
How long has Kirsten Storms played Maxie?
Mark your calendars! May 23 marks a significant date: the 20-year anniversary of Storms first stepping into the shoes of Maxie Jones, the oldest daughter of iconic GH parents Frisco (Jack Wagner) and Felicia Jones (Kristina Wagner).
Her performance earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2009, although she ultimately lost to fellow GH actress Julie Berman.
