Kayley Knight Joins New Zealand

Seamer Kayley Knight has earned a call-up to the New Zealand Women’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.

The series is scheduled to begin this Sunday, marking a potential One Day International debut for the Northern Districts bowler.

Knight recently completed her T20I debut during a series against Zimbabwe, where she claimed two wickets across two matches.

Her selection for the White Ferns follows a successful domestic campaign in the NZC Women’s One-Day Competition.

During that tournament, she finished as the joint-sixth highest wicket-taker with 17 dismissals at an average of 13.76.

Squad Adjustments and Injury Returns

The New Zealand Women’s squad welcomes back several experienced players who missed the previous tour due to injury.

Suzie Bates, Flora Devonshire, and Georgia Plimmer return to the roster, replacing Emma McLeod, Polly Inglis, and Bella James.

Knight enters the group as a replacement for Molly Penfold to bolster the pace of the attack.

Head coach Ben Sawyer cited Knight’s pace and control as primary factors for her inclusion in the cricket team. The squad will be led by captain Amelia Kerr.

The bowling unit also features Rosemary Mair and Jess Kerr to provide variety in the seam department.

Series Schedule and Venues

The upcoming fixtures follow a T20I series where New Zealand established a 3-1 lead over South Africa.

Both teams will remain in Christchurch for the opening match before traveling to Wellington for the remainder of the tour.

  • First ODI: Sunday, March 29 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch
  • Second ODI: Wednesday, April 1 at Basin Reserve, Wellington
  • Third ODI: Saturday, April 4 at Basin Reserve, Wellington
