John Leguizamo's Explosive Journey

Highlighting Latin Joy in Tough Times

John Leguizamo is back on the road to spotlight Latin talent across America.

The 64-year-old actor and activist stars in Season 2 of the eye-opening MSNBC docuseries “Leguizamo Does America” on July 6.

New Cities, New Discoveries

This season will take viewers on a journey to Philadelphia, Phoenix, New Orleans, San Antonio, Denver, and Raleigh.

Each location features amazing stories not often seen in mainstream media.

“I set out to find Latin excellence, innovation, and exceptionalism,” says Leguizamo.

“I met so many talented people—artists, politicians, activists, actors in every field—who are doing amazing work.”

San Antonio: An Unexpected Gem

When asked about his favorite place, Leguizamo said without hesitation: “San Antonio has blown me away in a way I never expected.”

He was impressed by the city’s size (America’s 7th-largest), amazing food scene, active activism, and deep Latin history.

“Obviously it was Mexico before it was America,” he says. “The culture is so deep you can feel it.”

Exposing America’s Hidden History

Leguizamo points to a truth that is often overlooked: “We’ve been here since 1492 and before that.

The first European language in America was Spanish, not English.”

This parallel story is the driving force of his exploration, where he meets Philly’s first Latino general manager, a dance troupe preserving Cuban culture in New Orleans, and an entrepreneur in Phoenix building a world-class mezcal company.

Finding Light in the Darkness

In addition to celebrating these accomplishments, Leguizamo also acknowledges the many challenges Latinx communities face today.

“We have a lot of challenges in this country,” he says. “Right now I see attacks on Latinos, mothers and children.”

This reality makes his mission even more important: “I made this show to celebrate Latino joys and Latino abilities.

I have a lot of hope, and I want to be able to share that hope with all the viewers.”

The new season blends politics, road trip adventures, and history lessons in what the network calls “a vintage Leguizamo adventure” that showcases America’s fastest-growing demographic.

Watch new episodes every week through August after premiering Sunday, July 6 at 9 p.m. ET on MSNBC.
