Confusing wording sparks debate
A question about James Bond films on the recent Final Jeopardy confused viewers.
The July 7 episode used words in the “Movie Music” category that left many fans confused about what the question was asking.
Controversial question
The question was: “The last 2 Best Song Oscar winners that had the same title as a movie had this person in the lead role.”
Although contestants Scott Riccardi and Vince Carter correctly answered “Daniel Craig,” many viewers at home had trouble understanding what the question was asking.
Viewer reaction
“This was so poorly written,” wrote one fan on Jeopardy’s YouTube page. “I thought they were asking about the last 2 Best Song winners: 2024 and 2025.”
Another viewer admitted: “A very confusing question. Took me longer than ‘think music’ to figure out what it said.”
Bond, James Bond
The question was referring to Adele’s “Skyfall” (2013) and Billie Eilish’s “No Time to Die” (2022) – both Oscar-winning songs with titles similar to the names of the Bond films they appeared in.
Some viewers questioned whether “James Bond” instead of “Daniel Craig” would have also been considered the correct answer, highlighting the ambiguity of the “this person in the lead role” part.
Not Jeopardy’s first controversy
This is not the first time the popular quiz show has courted controversy recently.
A few weeks ago, contestant Emily Croke revealed that she was related to the subject of a Final Jeopardy question, leading some viewers to allege rigging.
The show also faced criticism when media outlets incorrectly reported that Jason Singer and Susan MacMillan were the first married Jeopardy champions, prompting former contestant Kristin Sausville to speak out about being “erased in real time”.
Mixed reactions
While many criticised the wording of the Bond question, others described it as too easy.
Many fans pointed out that the James Bond franchise has more shared film and song titles than perhaps any other film series.
Despite the confusion, returning champion Scott Riccardi secured his third consecutive win by correctly identifying Craig, proving that sometimes even a confusing question can lead to the right answer.
