Jamie Foxx's Emotional BET Speech Shows His Gratitude

Ultimate Icon Gets Emotional

Jamie Foxx broke down at the BET Awards Monday night.

The usually hilarious performer couldn’t hold back tears after receiving the Ultimate Icon Award.

Stevie Wonder presented the honor to his longtime friend at the packed Peacock Theater.

Foxx’s raw emotion caught everyone off guard in the best way possible.

“Could’ve Been Me” Moment

“When I saw that in memoriam, I was like, ‘Man, that could’ve been me,'” Foxx admitted through tears.

His words hit hard after surviving a terrifying health scare last year.

Artists like Babyface, Jennifer Hudson, and T-Pain had just finished a moving tribute.

The gratitude in Foxx’s voice was impossible to miss.

Promise of Purpose

The Oscar winner vowed to make his second chance count. “I have so much love to give,” he declared with newfound conviction.

Foxx spoke directly to God about his renewed purpose in life. His promise to “do right” by this opportunity resonated throughout the theater.

The Black community’s support clearly meant everything to him.

Family in Tears

The camera caught Foxx’s daughters completely overcome with emotion.

Corinne, 31, and Anelise, 16, couldn’t hide their feelings watching dad speak.

“At a certain point, I’m gonna stop crying,” Foxx joked through tears.

But he wasn’t ready to compose himself just yet. The family’s journey had been too intense.

The Health Crisis Revealed

Foxx suffered a devastating stroke in April 2023. A brain bleed left him hospitalized for a month and unable to remember twenty days.

“I woke up in a wheelchair,” he recalled from his 2024 standup special.

The confusion and fear in that moment still haunts him. Recovery demanded months of grueling rehab.

Sister’s Unwavering Support

Deidra Dixon received special thanks for her caregiving role.

“She made sure she took care of her brother,” Foxx said while his sister covered her face. The siblings’ bond grew even stronger through the health crisis.

Her dedication helped him return to the spotlight we see today. Family truly became everything.

Laughter Returns

True to form, Foxx eventually brought back his signature humor. He referenced iconic career moments like Wanda from In Living Color.

His impression of Stevie Wonder had the audience howling with laughter.

Wonder himself had started the comedic exchange with jokes about their “bestie” status. The full Jamie Foxx experience had returned.
