Not the Villain You Think

James Remar has some thoughts about his character Richard on “Sex and the City” — and they may surprise you.

At 71 years old, the actor firmly believes that Richard wasn’t the show’s worst boyfriend.

In fact, during our chat at the recent Dexter: Resurrection premiere, he claimed, “I’m the best boyfriend on the show.”

The Real Story Behind Their Breakup

Remar shared an interesting behind-the-scenes conversation with writer-director Michael Patrick King about why Richard and Samantha’s relationship ended.

According to Remar, King told him, “We show love on this show just so it fails.”

Remar found some solace in this explanation, adding, “At least they said there was love there.”

Will They Return?

When asked about the possibility of joining the franchise, Remar spoke truthfully. “I’m sure it’s hard to say no, but I’m an old guy.

They’re not gonna call me,” he admitted with refreshing honesty.

Returning to Dexter

These days, Remar is playing Harry Morgan in Dexter: Resurrection.

He describes the experience as “totally new and totally different at the same time.”

Working with Michael C. Hall

The actor opened up about the intensity of working with Michael C. Hall.

“You have to be at your best. You can’t have fun and forget your lines,” he explained.

“When you work with Michael C. Hall, you have to know your lines and do the right thing because he always does,” Remar said, clearly impressed by his co-star’s professional attitude.

New city, new setting

Unlike the original Dexter series, which was set in Miami but filmed in LA, the reboot takes place in New York City, which creates a completely different atmosphere for the show.

Remar noted that both he and Hall have allowed their characters’ relationship to “evolve” in this new chapter, giving fans something new while also honoring what made the original series so appealing.
