When Julianne Nicholson Went Full Dance Mom
OMG, you guys won’t believe how crazy Julianne Nicholson got on Hacks! Paul W. Downs was straight-up scared of her on set.
No joke! In the show’s ninth episode, she plays this TikTok star called Dance Mom who’s completely lost it after getting famous.
Jimmy and Kayla find her passed out at Universal Studios after partying way too hard, and they’re like, “What the heck do we do now?!”
Desperate Times, Desperate Measures
So they need to wake her up FAST for Deborah Vance’s late night show, right? And the only solution is… yep, cocaine.
But not just any way! Downs was genuinely worried watching Nicholson act it out: “She’s so committed that I was like, ‘Is she okay?'”
The whole thing is hilarious but also kinda shows how this character has totally gone off the deep end. Talk about method acting!
Rehearsal? We Actually Had To!
This scene was such a mess (in the best way) that they actually had to rehearse it beforehand.
Can you believe it? “It’s literally the only scene we’ve ever rehearsed the night before,” Downs spilled.
There’s Nicholson crashing into furniture, getting her head dunked in ice water, and the whole cocaine situation.
It was basically organized chaos from start to finish!
Kayla Freaking Out Is Everything
Megan Stalter absolutely kills it as panicked Kayla during this whole disaster. She’s screaming at Jimmy about “Gator tails!”
instead of tiny lines – which was totally improvised by Jen Statsky during filming! Their frantic attempt to save Dance Mom is pure comedy gold.
I was dying watching these two try to handle this emergency!
They Wrote It Just For Her
The creators had been dying to work with Nicholson forever. They finally got her with this bonkers role that only she could pull off.
Lucia Aniello was blown away by how she transformed from “sweet Canadian woman to drug-fueled Adam Levine-texting psychopath” while somehow keeping it real. That’s talent, people!
It All Pays Off
After all that drama, Dance Mom actually makes it onstage!
She even drags poor Ethan Sommers into her weird performance before the drugs wear off and she literally collapses in his arms.
Classic Hacks moment – completely over-the-top but somehow still feels like something that would totally happen in showbiz.

“Working with her was a dream,” Aniello gushed about Nicholson.
The whole cast loved her so much that Aniello made sure to tell everyone “She’s become a friend…and I want that in print!”
