Ginger’s Autism Discovery: Finding My True Self at Last
When the therapist asked, “Are you autistic?” during my All Stars 10 psych evaluation, everything changed.
That simple question unlocked answers I’d been searching for my whole life.
The Question Nobody Asked Before
I’d sometimes wondered about autism, but never got tested properly.
Following the therapist’s suggestion, I finally got evaluated and discovered the truth about myself.
“It put 40 years of my existence into perspective,” I realized. Suddenly, patterns in my behavior, thinking, and interactions made perfect sense.
This autism diagnosis helped me understand who I am.
Health Crisis Wake-Up Call
My autism discovery happened while facing serious health problems.
Before All Stars, I landed in the hospital – prediabetic, blood pressure sky-high, and scared for my life.
“I got pumped full of medications and genuinely thought I was dying,” I remember thinking as I lay in that hospital bed.
This terrifying experience became a turning point for me. Since then, I’ve shed 160 pounds and completely transformed my health.
My autism diagnosis was another piece of the puzzle falling into place.

Finding Joy in Dark Times
It’s weird what lifts your spirits when you’re suffering. During those awful hospital days, the Wicked movie trailer dropped online.
As a theater geek through and through, watching that trailer was the first time I forgot about being sick. It sparked hope when everything felt hopeless.
That’s why meeting Ariana Grande on the show hit me so hard emotionally – it symbolized how far I’d come from those dark days.
Autism and Being Real
Understanding my autism changed everything about how I approach life and competition.
“I’d heard about ‘masking’ but never realized that’s exactly what I did every single day,” I told friends later. I’d been exhausting myself trying to seem neurotypical without even knowing it.
Now? I don’t constantly worry about being misunderstood. This autism awareness has lifted a massive weight off my shoulders.
Competing Without Pretending
While other queens play politics, I bring something different to All Stars 10: straight-up honesty.
“I’m not into alliances – they never worked for me anyway,” I say plainly. “If I promise to have your back, I mean it.”
My autism awareness has completely transformed my approach. Now that I understand myself better, I can finally show my true talents without second-guessing everything.
This journey proves autism isn’t a limitation – it’s just another part of what makes me uniquely me. Sometimes, the most surprising autism diagnosis becomes your greatest strength.
