How Did Finn Wolfhard Feel About ‘Stranger Things’ Ending?

Finn Wolfhard opens up about “bittersweet” finale emotions, therapy regrets, and what’s next after Stranger Things S5 wraps in 2025.

Was the ending everything you hoped for?

Finn Wolfhard, 22, says that Mike Wheeler’s story arc made him happy, but leaving Stranger Things after eight years was a rough time.

He tells PEOPLE, “I was happy, sad, and confused all at the same time.”

He had an “emotional hangover” the next day after shooting the last season, which is coming out this year.

“How did filming that last scene really feel?”

It felt like a dream gone wrong. “None of it felt real,” Wolfhard says.

Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, and the rest of the original Hawkins group stayed together for their last moments on set.

“Everyone was there. The outcome was positive, yet the pain was intense.

“What’s Vecna got in store for Season 5?”

Netflix hasn’t said anything yet, but a full-on fight is likely.

After the attack from the Upside Down, Mike and his friends are fighting Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, in Indiana in the 1980s.

“Perfect chaos,” Wolfhard says and hints.

Would you change anything about the whirlwind fame?

Therapy—right away. “If I could time-travel to 2016, I’d tell my younger self: ‘Get a therapist NOW.’” It was “crazy… no time to process” overnight fame.

Still, he doesn’t mind the chaos: “Childhood is full of mistakes.” “You have to make mistakes to grow up.”

What’s next after Hawkins?

In theaters now, Hell of a Summer is a horror-comedy, and on April 25, The Legend of Ochi comes out.

Wolfhard is only just beginning, even though Stranger Things is over.

There will be a Season 5 stream in 2025, “and it’s worth the wait.”
