Costars Keep His Memories Alive

Even a year after his tragic death, Cameron Boyce’s memory remains deep in the hearts of those close to him.

On July 6, his Descendants costars shared heartfelt tributes that show how deeply he is missed even today.

Simple But Powerful Memories

Sofia Carson, now 32, posted a touching black and white throwback photo of him, Boyce, Booboo Stewart and Dove Cameron from their Disney Channel days.

Her caption was short but said a lot: “Our Angel. Always.”

Stewart, 31, further spread the sentiment by reposting Carson’s tribute on her Instagram Stories, while Sarah Jeffery, 29, took a different approach.

She shared a memory from 2014 involving her and Cameron, along with a heart-touching message: “Heading to Victoria on the BC ferry to shoot Descendants. Life is good. Miss you, Cam.”

A rising star who passed away too soon

At just 20 years old, Cameron’s life ended in July 2019 when he suffered a fatal seizure related to epilepsy.

Despite his young age, he built an impressive career that won the hearts of millions of fans around the world.

Best known for playing Cruella de Vil’s son in the Descendants movies, Cameron also starred in the Disney Channel series Jessie with Debby Ryan for four seasons.

His talents blossomed early – at just nine years old, he appeared in the horror film Mirrors opposite Kiefer Sutherland, and later played one of Adam Sandler’s children in both Grown Ups movies.

Those Hidden Dangers His Family Didn’t Know

In a revealing conversation on The Squeeze podcast in 2023, Cameron’s parents, Victor and Libby Boyce, revealed how little they knew about their son’s condition before his death.

“There’s a lot we didn’t know before his death,” Libby explained, also noting that they had never heard of SUDEP – sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients – the condition that took their son’s life.

What makes their story particularly heartbreaking is that they believed Cameron’s seizure pattern was safer than it actually was.

After experiencing only five seizures in his life, all in sleep, his parents thought the timing was protective.

“I thought he was safe because he had seizures in his sleep,” Libby revealed.

“But actually, having seizures in sleep is more commonly associated with people dying.”

Turning grief into purpose

The Boyces have turned their devastating loss into a mission through The Cameron Boyce Foundation, focused on epilepsy awareness and education.

“Our big message is that this diagnosis needs to be taken very seriously,” Libby emphasized. “People need to be given more tools.”

Through his work and the memories of those who loved him, Cameron’s legacy goes far beyond his performances, touching people’s lives in ways that even his remarkable talent could not have predicted.
