Hey, listen! Cobie Smulders is definitely coming to Season 3 of Shrinking!
Show co-creator Bill Lawrence revealed that she will be seeing more of her character Sophie, and maybe even have some romance with Jason Segel’s character Jimmy.
TV nostalgia
If you don’t remember, Segel and Smulders starred together for nine full seasons on “How I Met Your Mother.”
Now they’re bringing that same chemistry to Shrinking, and fans are so excited for it!
Not just a cameo
“This show is about a little family,” Lawrence explained. As the characters heal and grow, they let new people into their lives.
That’s what’s happening with Sophie, whom Jimmy met in Season 2 when he bought his daughter a yellow Mini Cooper for her birthday.
Genuine connection
Why do their scenes feel so good? Smulders reveals the secret: “I already have a bond with Jason, so everything feels natural on camera.
And honestly—Jason is such a likable guy that it’s easy to be influenced by him!”
Jimmy’s journey
Season 3 has a clear theme: “moving on.” After focusing on grief in the first season and forgiveness in the second, Jimmy may be ready to start something new.
Not a typical romance
Don’t expect awkward dating scenes. Jimmy isn’t portrayed as someone who can fool around with women.
Rather, his hesitation comes from a deeper place—he thinks Sophie deserves someone better than him.
Cast support
Another Shrinking star, Jessica Williams, is also on board with the storyline: “As a fan, I want to see more of this,” she said, and is looking forward to working with Smulders herself.
