Chandra Wilson Only Watched 3 Seasons of Grey’s in 20 Years

Original cast member Chandra Wilson plans to binge her own medical drama series

Chandra Wilson Only Watched 3 Seasons of Grey's in 20 Years

After two decades playing the iconic Dr. Miranda Bailey, Chandra Wilson has a confession: she’s barely watched Grey’s Anatomy!

Speaking to PEOPLE at Disney’s 2025 Upfront presentation, Wilson admitted she’s only seen up to season 3 of the medical drama that made her a household name.

Talk about being too busy to enjoy your own work!

The 55-year-old actress started her Grey’s binge during COVID lockdowns but had to pause when production resumed.

“I got as far as season three during COVID, and then we went back to work,” Wilson explained with a laugh.

Now she feels it’s finally time to catch up on all she’s missed.

Last Woman Standing (Almost)

Wilson holds a special place in Grey’s history as one of only two remaining original cast members who appear regularly.

Alongside James Pickens Jr. (Dr. Richard Webber), she’s witnessed countless colleagues come and go from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital over two decades of medical drama.

While Ellen Pompeo stepped back from her full-time role as Meredith Grey after season 19, she still makes occasional appearances.

Pompeo recently told El País that financially, leaving the show completely didn’t make sense. Some paychecks are just too good to walk away from!

Bailey’s Eternal Appeal

“I enjoy bringing her to life,” Wilson shared about her beloved character.

The actress particularly loves showing different sides of Bailey’s personality and even joked about her character’s ever-changing hairstyles.

That enthusiasm clearly hasn’t dimmed after 21 seasons!

Wilson’s passion for the role helps explain her incredible longevity on a show famous for its revolving door of talent.

While other actors moved on, she found continued joy in exploring Bailey’s evolution from tough-as-nails resident to hospital leader and mentor to new generations of doctors.

Season 22 Mystery Awaits

With season 22 confirmed for fall, Grey’s will soon surpass 450 episodes – a remarkable achievement for any television series.

Wilson and the team have already begun celebrating this incredible milestone that few TV shows ever reach.

The medical drama truly stands alone in television history!

“I don’t have the slightest idea what a season 22 would be about,” Wilson admitted with genuine curiosity.

She teased that after the season 21 finale, viewers will be left wondering, “What in the world is season 22 gonna be about?” Some mysteries even the cast can’t solve yet!

Catch Grey’s Anatomy Thursday nights at 10 on ABC! Can’t make it? No worries – just stream it on Hulu the following day.
