“I hated Cory” – the cast reveals the bitter truth

The stars of Boy Meets World aren’t hiding their feelings about one particularly bad episode.

Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle recently slammed the Season 6 Valentine’s Day episode “My Baby Valentine” on their rewatch podcast, Pod Meets World.

“Felt rushed and awkward”

Strong didn’t mince his words about the 1999 episode in which Cory tries to balance throwing a baby shower for his mother and not neglecting his fiancée, Topanga.

“It felt like several different episodes were crammed into one,” the 45-year-old actor explained.

“One was about Cory’s anxiety and Valentine’s Day, and then obviously, he doesn’t live with that. I don’t know if he really learned anything.” ## Cory at his worst

Friedle, who plays Eric Matthews, said it even more directly: “I hated Cory, but I think it was meant to be.

That was the worst kind of Cory that I’ve ever seen. It’s just horrible.”

Fishel, who plays Topanga, completely agreed. “It’s definitely the worst kind of Cory that we’ve ever seen, consistently throughout the episode.”

Physical discomfort on set

Fishel revealed one particularly upsetting thing about shooting the episode.

“The way he grabs Topanga’s shoulder—you can hear it in my voice because I’m talking—he grabs me by the shoulder and you can hear that it’s so hard that it changes the way the words come out of my mouth. My breathing changes.”

She also said that while Season 6 mostly featured her “favorite kind of Cory,” this episode was a weird exception.

Not everything was bad

Despite their strong criticism, the hosts also found some good things in the episode.

“I was more interested in Rachel and Jack’s story than I ever thought I would be,” Strong admitted, praising Matthew Lawrence’s performance. “It’s a storyline I didn’t even remember happening.”

They also liked William Daniels as Mr. Feeny, with Friedle calling him “hilarious.”

Pattern of criticism

This isn’t the first time former cast members have criticized their own show.

In March, they discussed another season 6 episode, “Hogs & Kisses,” which Fishel called “probably the worst episode of television I’ve ever seen.”

She also revealed that she had mentally given up during that particular episode: “I knew I was bored with the show. I had my soul ripped out of my body.”
