Blumhouse in turmoil: Six employees laid off amid Nicole Kidman film!

Blumhouse lays off staff

Last week, Blumhouse laid off six people from its team who worked in various departments.

The independent studio, which has about 100 employees, confirmed that the cuts were made as part of a company restructuring.

Who was affected?

Most of the people leaving are younger team members and support staff.

They also include Haley Pigman, who was a creative development manager and worked on recent projects such as “The Woman in the Yard” directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

Timing raises questions

The layoffs come just two weeks after “M3GAN 2.0” performed less than expected at the box office.

However, sources say none of the employees leaving worked on that film.

Not the first time cuts have been made

This is not the first time Blumhouse has made cuts.

The TV division had already seen cuts in 2023 when Chris McCumber resigned as television president.

Fewer than 10 people were affected during that period. Melissa Aouate took over the role last April.

Industry challenges

Many independent TV studios have been hit hard by the current industry downturn.

Despite the challenges, Blumhouse continues to develop projects like the upcoming “Scarpetta” series for Prime Video, starring Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis.

What’s next?

For movie fans, Blumhouse still has some big releases coming up. “Black Phone 2” hits theaters Oct. 17, followed by “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” on Dec. 5.
