When Marnie Almost Became a SoulCycle Instructor in “Girls”

Allison Williams recently shared some behind-the-scenes gossip with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang on the Las Culturistas podcast about her “Girls” character that never made it to the screen.

Williams revealed that a storyline was cut, which would have had her character, Marnie, on a completely different career path.

Woh, Cut That Hurt Her

“Sometimes, when you’re writing a season of the show, plans change,” Williams explained.

“Marnie was a SoulCycle instructor for a season, but that storyline was cut from the show.”

The actress did not hide her disappointment: “Listen, I was devastated. I trained, I attended double classes at SoulCycle, the New York City SoulCycle.”

From Fictional Fitness to Real Action

Although Marnie never led a cycling class, Williams later embraced physical challenges in her career.

For her role in “M3GAN 2.0,” she worked with a personal trainer who typically trains people for “Avengers movies.”

“I really liked the action part of my work in this movie,” Williams shared.

She found the experience meta, noting, “Gemma thinks I can’t believe I’m in an action movie, and I can’t believe it either.

So we were both going through the same experience.”

Scream Queen Who Can’t Watch Horror

Despite working in horror hits like the “M3GAN” films and “Get Out,” Williams confessed that she’s afraid of the genre herself.

“I’m a real wimp with a capital W,” she admitted on NPR’s The Sam Sanders Show.

“I can only watch horror movies on planes. That’s the only time I can watch them.”

“Girls’ Legacy

Williams played Marnie for six seasons on the Emmy-winning HBO comedy, which ran from 2012 to 2017.

The show followed four friends navigating New York City in their twenties, with their messy relationships and career struggles.

Though we’ll never see what Marnie looked like leading sweaty cycling sessions, Williams’ revelation gives fans a glimpse of what could have happened in the show’s ever-evolving storylines.
